The St. Landry Parish
Children and
Youth Services Planning Board was established in response to Act 1225
and Act 555 of
the 2003 Louisiana Legislative Session. The Louisiana State Legislature
mandated, through Act 1225, that
every Judicial District to establish a multidisciplinary planning board
that
would work with the development of programs and services for children
and youth
within that Judicial District.
The mission
and purpose
of the St. Landry Parish Children and
Youth
Services Planning Board is:
1.)
To promote services which encourage
positive development, diversion of children and youth from the criminal
justice
and foster care systems, and intervention and treatment by creating a
multi-disciplinary continuum of care.
2.)
To implement the St.
Landry Parish Substance Abuse Prevention Strategic Plan in order to
sustain the
outcomes and support substance abuse prevention in St. Landry Parish.
3.)
To reduce substance abuse among youth
with goals to:
a.)
Establish
and strengthen collaboration among
communities, private non-profit agencies, and Federal, State, local and
tribal
governments to support the efforts of community coalitions to prevent
and
reduce substance abuse among youth.
b.)
Reduce substance abuse
among adults by
addressing factors in St. Landry Parish that increase the risk of
substance
abuse and promote the factors that minimize the risk of substance abuse.

St. Landry Parish Children and Youth Services Planning Board's website
is designed to begin making the resources and needs of these community
members accessible and known. The CYS Board (along with the SPF-SIG
Project) hopes to begin engaging all those concerned about and invested
in the educational, emotional, spiritual and physical health of
children, youth and young adults through this website. Our goal is to
create a network for ongoing information sharing, substance abuse
prevention, promotion of overall healthier youth and much more.
Evidenced based strategies (programs, policies and practices that are
proven to be effective), that address the needs of St. Landry Parish
youth and the gaps in services are key concerns of the CYS Board.
